Dooney and Bourke Designer Handbags Founder Frederic Bourke Prison Sentence
Dooney and Bourke handbags are excellent designer bags but founder Frederic Bourke (who hasn't been associated with te company for a long time) was given a one year and one day prison sentence yesterday for "foreign bribery". Last July he was convicted for investing $8 M with Czech Entreprenuer, Victor Kozeny, in the early 1990’s to bribe the Azerbaijan government in order to get in on the state’s private oil company. Burke will also have to serve 3 years probation after his release, and is also facing a fine of $1 million.
Bourke claims he is a victim of Kozeny, and that he didn’t know he was paying cash and jewelry to foreign government officials. He will appeal against the conviction and his lawyer feels Bourke has every chance of winning the appeal.
Dooney and Burke fell out a long time ago and Peter Dooney now runs the company. Back in May Bourke said that he believed Dooney was secretly injecting him with a “harmful substance.” Mr Dooney laughed off the accusation saying “I haven’t seen the guy in years and years. No secret injections. Categorically denied.”
