A curious relationship !

In 1981, Dooney & Bourke decided to make handbags and launched the Tack Case and Equestrian Bag, manufactured from bridle leather. There products are sold throughout the USA and in particular in Brooks Brothers, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue, they also opened The Dooney and Bourke Company Store in Norwalk, Connecticut.

1983 saw the creation of the famous All-Weather Leather (AWL) bag, the first of which featured a duck logo with a russet leather trim.

2006 and 2007 saw the creation of the "Emma Bag," a small bag named after Emma Roberts.


The All-Weather Leather bag is made from cowhide and is waterproof, water just rolls off it. The AWL needs only minimal care. Difficult stains are removed using water and a bar of mild, e.g. Ivory or saddle soap. Take care if using creams to clean or condition the bags as the oils in the creams risk softening the leather and opening the pores, which would negate the effects of the special shrinking process adopted which renders the leather waterproof.
